🌍 President Ruto Champions Regional Entrepreneurs as East Africa’s Dreams Take Center Stage at the 25th EAC MSMEs Trade Fair

Standing before rows of colorful stalls at Uhuru Gardens, President William Ruto looked out at hundreds of East African entrepreneurs — each one a story of grit, innovation, and hope.
As he officially opened the 25th East African Community (EAC) MSMEs Trade Fair, his message was clear: the future of East Africa lies in the hands of its small business owners.

“Our people are creative, capable, and determined,” Ruto said.
“We must give them access to affordable finance, open digital markets, and remove the barriers that limit their potential.”

LiveNow Africa spent time among the exhibitors and officials, uncovering one inspiring story after another — stories of courage, creativity, and community.
A clear pattern emerged: every exhibitor has endured a journey of persistence, innovation, and countless small steps to make their products a reality.
Each story is a treasure worth keeping — a reminder that the East African dream is being built, stall by stall, idea by idea.

👩🏾‍🎨 The Human Faces of Innovation

Across the lawns of Uhuru Gardens, the colors told their own story. Handwoven baskets from Uganda sat beside Kenyan beadwork, Rwandan coffee blends with Tanzanian spices, while Burundi’s organic oils shared space with Congolese art.

At one stall, Jane Wanjiku, a soap maker from Nakuru, gently arranged her handmade organic bars. She told us how a simple community training program turned her from a job seeker into an employer of five.

“Coming here is more than selling,” she smiled. “It’s about meeting people who believe, like me, that small ideas can grow into something regional.”

A few steps away, Abdul from Tanzania proudly displayed his mats made from recycled plastics — a symbol of sustainability and creativity. “These mats are woven from what others throw away,” he said. “We turn waste into beauty, and that’s the spirit of Africa.”

Each entrepreneur carried a personal story of sacrifice, family, and faith. Behind every product was a sleepless night, a challenge overcome, and a dream pursued.

💬 A Presidential Call to Empower

In his speech, President Ruto emphasized that Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the heartbeat of East Africa’s economy.
He noted that while the region’s growth is visible, its true strength lies in the resilience and creativity of its people.

“Our governments must walk with our entrepreneurs — not ahead of them,” Ruto said.
“By improving access to finance, digital connectivity, and open markets, we make it possible for local innovators to lead our industrial revolution.”

The President highlighted Kenya’s Digital Superhighway Project, aimed at installing public Wi-Fi hotspots, building digital hubs in every ward, and connecting local markets to regional and global trade networks.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the Hustler Fund, which has enabled thousands of small business owners — especially youth and women — to access credit and grow their ventures.

🌍 A Fair of Unity and Enterprise

The fair’s theme, “25 Years of EAC Integration: Advancing Innovation and Regional Value Chains for Competitive MSMEs towards Sustainable Development,” resonated strongly across the region.

EAC Secretary General Dr. Peter Mathuki called it a “celebration of progress,” noting that trade among partner states continues to grow, thanks to the energy and creativity of MSMEs.

“We are seeing MSMEs evolve from local craft to continental innovation,” Dr. Mathuki said. “This is how we build a self-reliant East Africa — by trusting our own makers.”

The event featured workshops and forums on digital trade, sustainable production, youth empowerment, and access to finance, equipping small business owners with knowledge to expand and scale their ideas.

💡 From Local to Continental

Beyond the business deals and trade statistics, the fair revealed something more powerful — the rise of a connected entrepreneurial generation.
Young people from across East Africa showcased innovations in green energy, digital technology, agriculture, and fashion, proving that the region’s future is not only industrial but also creative.

From solar-powered fridges built in Kisumu to eco-friendly textiles from Kigali and AI-powered logistics tools from Kampala, the fair painted a clear picture: Africa’s innovation is not waiting for the future — it’s happening now.

❤️ The Heartbeat of a Rising Continent

As the sun set over Uhuru Gardens, the energy was still electric — a mix of pride, ambition, and hope. The entrepreneurs packed their stalls knowing that even if they didn’t sell everything, they had gained something priceless: connection, confidence, and continental recognition.

At LiveNow Africa, we believe these are the stories worth telling — stories that show the beating heart of Africa’s transformation.
Because behind every small business stands a dreamer, a builder, and a believer.
And behind every believer stands a continent ready to rise.
