A man was arrested early Tuesday morning in Huruma, Nairobi, carrying a human thorax believed to belong to his 19-year-old wife, whose dismembered body was later discovered in their residence.
The young woman had been missing for several days, although locals reported that the disappearance had not been brought to the attention of the police.
Gruesome Discovery
According to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect was stopped by police at around 5 a.m. while carrying a suspicious bag. Upon inspection, officers found a female thorax stashed inside a cement bag.
During interrogation, the man confessed that the body parts belonged to his wife. He then led officers to his single-room residence, where more body parts, including the head with gouged-out eyes, were found under the bed.
However, key body parts, including the left hand, waist, hip area, and one upper thigh, were missing.
Evidence Recovered
In the house, police discovered a sharp knife in a basin of water, blood-stained clothes believed to belong to the deceased, and a blood-stained floor, suggesting the crime had been committed on-site.
Investigations Underway
Detectives from the Starehe DCI office have launched a comprehensive investigation to locate the missing body parts and confirm the identity of the victim.
While the motive remains unclear, authorities have stated they are considering several possibilities, including occultism, which has been linked to several murders in the region.
The Nairobi regional head of the DCI assured the public that they are committed to uncovering the full details of the crime and ensuring justice for the victim.
