The Kenya Meteorological Department issued a cautionary alert on Thursday regarding anticipated heavy rains set to lash several regions of the country in the coming two days.

According to the advisory issued by the Kenya Met, isolated heavy rainfall is expected to affect areas spanning Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, and the Central Highlands. Similar weather patterns are forecasted for the Lake Victoria Basin, the North Coast, and offshore regions.

The meteorological forecasts predict these regions to bear the brunt of heavy rainfall from Thursday, May 9, through to Friday, May 10.

Kenyans have been urged to exercise caution and prioritize safety measures as floods persist in some parts of the country.

"Continued rainfall across multiple regions. Stay safe and prepared," emphasized the meteorological department, underscoring the importance of vigilance amidst the inclement weather.

Meanwhile, in Nairobi, the weather outlook anticipates cloudy conditions with intermittent sunshine during the day and sporadic light to moderate rainfall.

The weather bulletin comes on the heels of President William Ruto's recent announcement of the reopening of schools commencing May 13. This decision follows a previous directive by the president for the indefinite closure of schools due to ongoing floods ravaging several regions across the nation.

"In light of the assessment by weather experts and the government, it is deemed safe for our children to return to school," declared the head of state, formalizing the reopening of educational institutions.

In tandem with this directive, President Ruto designated Friday, May 10, as a public holiday to commemorate those adversely affected by the floods.

“On this day, we shall engage in tree planting activities, reaffirming our commitment to environmental conservation as the antidote to climate change,” affirmed the president, emphasizing the significance of environmental stewardship in tackling climate challenges.
