Pope Francis conveyed a special message of concern and solidarity for Kenya as the country grapples with severe flooding, expressing his spiritual closeness to the Kenyan people and offering prayers for those affected.

In a statement released through official channels, the Pope emphasized his solidarity with Kenya and the global community, urging collective prayer and support for those impacted by the floods.

Acknowledging the tragic consequences of the flooding, which has resulted in loss of life and extensive property damage, Pope Francis urged unity in prayer for all affected by the natural disaster.

"I stand spiritually close to the people of Kenya during this time of severe flooding, which has claimed many lives and caused extensive destruction. Let us join in prayer for all those suffering from the effects of this calamity," read the statement.

The Pope's message comes in the wake of the tragic incident in Mai Mahiu, where over 70 individuals lost their lives due to a burst tunnel, marking one of the deadliest consequences of the ongoing floods. Reports indicate that an entire village was swept away by the floodwaters on Monday morning.

Additionally, the floods have wreaked havoc in various parts of the country, claiming lives and disrupting normalcy. In Mathare, for instance, at least 15 people lost their lives as their homes were submerged.

The floods have also led to the closure of roads, disrupting business and daily activities. In response, the government, following a cabinet meeting, announced plans to relocate individuals living within 30-meter corridors of major rivers in Nairobi, aiming to mitigate future risks posed by flooding.
