Faith Odhiambo has emerged victorious in the Law Society of Kenya's presidential elections, securing the position after a hotly contested race.

Odhiambo, who previously served as the Vice President of the society, clinched the presidency in Thursday's polls, marking a significant milestone in her legal career.

Competing against four other candidates—Peter Wanyama, Carolyne Kamende, Harriet Mboche, and Kipkoech Bernhard Ngetich—Odhiambo garnered a commanding 3,113 votes, firmly establishing her mandate.

The race saw intense competition, with Odhiambo's closest rival, Peter Wanyama, conceding defeat gracefully. Wanyama attributed his loss to allegations of government sponsorship, expressing disappointment but extending his congratulations to Odhiambo.

In his concession statement, Wanyama emphasized the value of the connections forged during his campaign and reaffirmed his dedication to legal advocacy.

With her victory, Faith Odhiambo assumes the prestigious role of the 51st President of the Law Society of Kenya, succeeding Eric Theuri, whose term ends on March 25, 2024.

Odhiambo's campaign was characterized by her unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and defending legal principles—a pledge echoed by endorsements from prominent figures such as Raila Odinga and Edwin Sifuna.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, after a meeting with Odhiambo, lauded her dedication to the rule of law and governance principles, offering his full support.

Odhiambo's election marks a significant moment in LSK's history, with Raychelle Omamo being the last woman to hold the presidency from 2001 to 2003.

The electoral process, overseen by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), extended beyond the presidential race to include the election of vice presidents, council members, and LSK male representatives to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Faith Odhiambo's ascendancy to the LSK presidency signals a new chapter in the organization's leadership, with members anticipating her tenure with optimism and renewed commitment to legal excellence and advocacy.
