Asenath Jeruto, the grieving wife of the renowned World Record marathon holder Kelvin Kiptum, tearfully revealed their plans for an eagerly anticipated April wedding, now tragically dashed by his untimely passing.

In a poignant tribute delivered at the funeral service held in Elgeyo Marakwet on Friday, February 23, Jeruto shared the couple's aspirations to solemnize their union in a church ceremony this April. Despite being married traditionally in 2017, the couple had yet to officiate their vows in a church setting.

With a heavy heart, Jeruto pledged to proceed with the wedding on the scheduled date, a poignant tribute to her beloved late husband.

"We had envisioned a joyous celebration to exchange vows in a beautiful ceremony this April 2024, but God's plans transcend ours. Even in your absence, I will honor our commitment. You were my rock, the best husband, and father to our children. Farewell, dance among the angels," she expressed.

The loss of Kiptum, described by Jeruto as monumental, has left a chasm in her life and in the lives of their two children. She grapples with the daunting prospect of forging ahead without her life partner.

"My love, bidding you farewell is an agony I cannot bear. My heart aches at the thought of navigating life without you by my side, returning home no more. I mourn deeply, yet I resolve to care for our children in your memory," Jeruto lamented.

In a heartfelt written tribute, Kiptum's children hailed their father as a hero, grappling with the reality of a life forever altered by his absence.

"We remain incredulous at your departure. Your memory will forever reside in our hearts. Life feels incomplete without you," they penned.

Following Jeruto's emotional tribute, local leaders led by Member of Parliament Gideon Kimaiyo appealed to President William Ruto and the county government for support for Kiptum's family, advocating for employment for the grieving widow.

In a gesture of solidarity, President Ruto announced plans to gift Jeruto a three-bedroom house, symbolizing the nation's support during this trying time.

Kiptum and his Rwandese coach, Gervais Hakizimana, met their tragic end in a fatal road accident on February 11 along the Eldoret-Kaptagat Road, leaving behind a legacy of athletic prowess and a community in mourning.
