Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria raised concerns on Wednesday, hinting that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's statements might have played a part in the arrest of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Sharing a video of the governor's arrest, CS Kuria questioned the intent behind DP Gachagua's directive to Meru County leaders to resolve their disputes.

"Is this what Gachagua meant when he said 'Meru problems be solved in Meru by Merians'?" he pondered.

CS Kuria further expressed his disapproval of the current government's approach in dealing with critics, comparing it to the tactics employed by the previous administration.

"It is inappropriate to subject Governor Kawira Mwangaza to the same kind of harassment that the former government subjected some of us to," he asserted.

On October 1, Deputy President Gachagua declared that he would refrain from involving himself in the ongoing disputes in the country, leaving the resolution of these issues to the elected leaders.

He revealed that he and President William Ruto would not intervene, as they had earlier in the year when Mwangaza faced impeachment.

Mwangaza's arrest took place during one of her charity events, specifically the 'one cow per needy family project' in Imenti Central Sub-County.

The governor reported that the police declined to take her to the police station and press charges. Instead, she alleged that she was held in a police car for a duration of two hours.

"I am currently under arrest for donating a cow to a needy family," she stated.

However, the police provided an explanation, asserting that it was a case of mistaken identity, and they subsequently released the governor. The officers issued an apology, emphasizing that there was no malicious intent behind the incident.
