Less than a week since the Nyandarua Governor and former Head of Public Service, Francis Kimemia, admitted to the existence of the deep state and its ability to influence elections outcome, a legislator allied to Deputy President William Ruto has made glaring allegations on its operations.
Bahati Member of Parliament, Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri, who is known for his fearless approach and a harsh critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta, has detailed how the deep state plans to block the Deputy President from ascending to power.
In a video he published on Friday, September 24, the outspoken legislator accused the country’s founding First Lady, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, who is also President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother, of being part of the team plotting Ruto’s downfall.
In his remarks, Kimani accuses Mama Ngina of being instrumental in the infamous March 9, 2018, handshake that saw President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political rival and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, bury the hatchet and work together.
According to the legislator, President Kenyatta’s close family members played a vital role in sealing the handshake deal, saying that it was formed with the intention of stopping DP Ruto from becoming the country’s fifth president.
“They (referring to the President’s family members and friends) got Uhuru’s mother, Mama Ngina, and went to Raila’s house in Karen and they agreed on the strategy. They were looking for Raila Odinga because they know he has a lot of propaganda,” he stated.
“When they went there, they discussed and Raila came with his strategy, to smear Ruto with graft cases.”
Kimani argues that Raila was brought on board in a well hatched plan to cause a rift between Uhuru and Ruto and eventually block the DP’s State House ambitions through allegations of graft. He, however, says that this plan failed, leading the deep state to craft another strategy.
According to the Bahati MP, the second plan was hatched at the La Mada hotel through a series of meetings conducted by leaders allied to the handshake.
The La Mada hotel, which is located off the Thika Superhighway, came into the limelight in June 2020 after Digital Strategist and former State House Head of Digital, Dennis Itumbi, accused a group of leaders including Cabinet Secretaries of planning to harm the Deputy President.
Itumbi, who is the serving Spokesperson of the Hustler Nation movement associated with William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, has remained adamant that the plot to harm the person of the Deputy President actually happened. The matter is currently in court.
MP Kimani, in his usual abrasive nature, says the deep state after failing in the first two plans, hatched a third one to try and block Ruto’s ambitions.
The third plan, he says, was to re-open the crimes against humanity case that was facing the DP at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Hague, Netherlands.
The MP alleges that lawyer Paul Gicheru, who is currently at the ICC and facing charges of bribing witnesses to recant their evidence in the case against Ruto, is his personal friend and that he phoned him to inform him of his plan to ‘fix’ the DP.
Kimani says that Lawyer Gicheru is a project of the deep state.
The MP went ahead to mention other top government officials, whom he accused of being part of the expansive plan to bring down the Deputy President.
“When I served under Mwai Kibaki, I’m writing this in my book, I was in a privileged position to see how governments run, I used to see the frustrations of Ambassador Francis Muthaura,” Governor Mutua said. Ambassador Muthaura was President Kibaki’s longest-serving Head of Public Service.
“At that time, we did not talk about the deep state, we talked about the kitchen cabinet, apparently there was a kitchen cabinet basically made up of government officials who ran the show.”
However, according to Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, the so called deep state is an illusion. During an interview with a local TV station, the PS dispelled its existence further denying being part of it.
