Reflecting on their last conversation, Cheruiyot recounted Kiptum's hopeful outlook on life, vividly recalling their discussion about Kiptum's ambitions, including plans to construct a family home.

"On Saturday night, he assured me he'd return from Fluorspar. He spoke of a white man coming to build us a house and confidently mentioned clocking 1 hour 58 minutes in his next race due to his excellent fitness," shared Kiptum's father with the press.

The devastating news of Kiptum's accident reached Cheruiyot through his phone, prompting him to rush to the crash site. Sadly, upon arrival, he found that Kiptum and his coach Garvais Hakizimana had already been taken to the mortuary.

Struck by profound grief, Cheruiyot expressed the overwhelming loss of his only child, leaving him and his grandchildren without direction and in desperate need of assistance.

Adding to the family's anguish, Cheruiyot revealed a mysterious visitation to their home just days before Kiptum's passing, leaving them unsettled and questioning.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs and Sports Ababu Namwamba pledged the government's dedication to arranging a dignified farewell for the late marathon champion.

Addressing the media at Talanta Plaza, CS Namwamba praised Kiptum's remarkable legacy, labeling him a national hero whose contributions had elevated Kenya's prominence in global sports.
