Landlord Auctions Tenant’s Underwears After Rent Default

In recent months, cases of Kenyans failing to raise rent has been on the rise due to tough economic times.

A recent notice published by a Kisumu-based Nyaluoyo Auctioneers planning to auction eight undergarments among other items belonging to one of the tenants has elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans.

The Nyaluoyo Auctioneers placed an advert in a local daily on Monday indicating its plan to sell four ladies’ underwear, four men’s underwear, two hip enlargements, two kids bags, and three eye adhesives at a public auction on February 7, 2023.

According to the auctioneers the items will be sold to recover part of the unpaid rent by the tenant identified as Zacharia Sichenje Masika.

Reports indicate the tenant owes Sh120,000 in rent arrears.

“Pursuant to our principal’s instruction, we shall sell the following goods by public auction on Tuesday, 7th day of February 2023 at our office yard, Kisumu at 11:00 A.M,” read the notice in part.

“Terms of sale. Cash at the fall of the hammer,” it adds.
