Three more suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso in a coordinated operation conducted in Nairobi and Kampala.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said two of the suspects were arrested in Kampala, Uganda, while a third was intercepted in Nairobi.
The two suspects arrested in Uganda are Police Constable Bett Kiplangat Collins, attached to Thogoto Police Station, and civilian Pius Muiru Mbugua.
They were arrested at Kyanja Heights flats in Kampala’s Nakawa suburb with the assistance of the Uganda Police Force.
The two are being held at Jinja Road Police Station pending their escorted return to Kenya.
The third suspect, Samuel Karanja Gathoni, alias “Lawyer”, was intercepted within the Langata Multi-Media area while travelling towards Ongata Rongai.
According to investigators, PC Bett allegedly played a surveillance role and served as co-driver to Daniel Mwangi Njoroge, whom detectives have identified as a key organiser of the operation.
Njoroge was allegedly driving a Land Cruiser Prado, registration number KDH 600A, which detectives say was used to box in the Uber vehicle carrying Dr Mutiso.
The incident happened on the morning of July 29, 2026, in Upper Hill, Nairobi, shortly before the doctor was fatally shot.
Investigators also allege that Mbugua acted as a link between the alleged execution team and the person who contracted them.
The DCI said Mbugua was responsible for moving money meant for logistics and facilitating the movement of the alleged hit team.
The arrests followed forensic analysis by a specialised team drawn from the DCI’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, Operations Directorate and Homicide Bureau.
The suspects arrested in Uganda are expected to be escorted back to Kenya, where they will be processed and arraigned in court in accordance with the law.
The DCI said the latest arrests demonstrate that the investigation into Dr Mutiso’s killing remains active despite some suspects having fled the country.
The DCI dismissed earlier claims that suspects had been arrested and subsequently released, describing the allegations as false and an attempt to undermine the investigation.
