Kisumu, August 16, 2023 - James Osogo, a revered figure in Kenyan politics and a former minister who served under the administrations of Presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Moi, breathed his last on Tuesday, August 15, at 3:30 pm. His passing marked the end of a life dedicated to public service and political leadership.

James Osogo, aged 90, had been grappling with a prolonged illness that eventually led to his demise at a hospital in Kisumu. His son, Omar Osogo, confirmed that his father had been receiving medical treatment for an extended period before succumbing to his illness.

The former Minister of Commerce and Industry had been seeking medical care at various healthcare facilities due to his declining health. On Saturday, August 12, his condition took a severe turn when he was diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes. Medical professionals observed organ failure, prompting his admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he passed away three days later.

Upon learning of his passing, President William Ruto paid tribute to James Osogo as a highly respected public servant and politician. Ruto acknowledged Osogo's pivotal role as one of Kenya's pioneer ministers and lauded his visionary thinking and unwavering dedication to community service.

"He was visionary, uncompromising and an astute thinker whose service to the community was unmatched. We honour the great life that he led and the rich memories that he leaves with us," President Ruto expressed.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also commemorated James Osogo as a fatherly figure, emphasizing the close relationship between Osogo's children and himself. Mudavadi reflected on the invaluable advice and friendship he shared with the late statesman, describing Osogo's autobiography, titled "Honorary Deeds," as a testament to his remarkable character and deeds.

James Osogo's political journey commenced in 1963 when he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives for the Ruwambua constituency, later renamed Budalangi. His illustrious career led him to various ministerial positions, including Agriculture, Commerce and Industry, Local Government, Health, and Foreign Affairs. Osogo's contributions spanned multiple administrations, highlighting his dedication to shaping Kenya's political landscape and serving its citizens.

His legacy lives on in the history of Kenya's political development, and his passing marks the end of an era in the nation's governance.
