Comedian Eric Omondi has taken up the mantle to rally Kenyans in support of two teenagers who were shot during the anti-government protests organized by the Azimio coalition. Omondi's initiative to raise funds for the victims began on the night of Monday, July 24, and has already garnered close to Ksh1 million by 6:00 AM the next day.

The first boy, who reportedly sustained nine gunshot wounds, received the initial target of Ksh700,000. However, Omondi decided to extend the fundraiser to include another high school student who endured 17 gunshot wounds. Determined to provide adequate support for both affected families, Omondi aims to reach the target of Ksh2 million.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support, Omondi announced his plan to construct houses for the parents of the two boys, both of whom are in Form Four. Additionally, the remaining funds will be used to start businesses for the families and shop for their essential needs.

The comedian emphasized that the fundraiser would continue throughout the day, urging Kenyans to contribute whatever they could afford. Omondi acknowledged the generosity of Kenyans in the diaspora, highlighting their significant role in ensuring the target was met.

This fundraiser follows Omondi's successful effort in raising Ksh400,000 for a man who was arrested during protests in Nairobi. The man's arrest by a police officer disguised as a journalist sparked condemnation from the Media Council of Kenya, warning of potential risks faced by genuine journalists.

While the ongoing protests have brought attention to the conduct of Kenyan security officers, the United Nations has also criticized the government for not curbing excessive use of force and failing to protect peaceful protesters exercising their democratic rights.

Through his benevolent actions, Eric Omondi is not only providing critical support to victims of violence but also amplifying the call for responsible and peaceful solutions during these challenging times.
