Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has said that Kenya Kwanza MPs who voted against the proposed Finance Bill, 2023 will face disciplinary action.
In a statement on Wednesday evening, Cherargei said that the MPs will be disciplined in accordance with the party's constitution.
"The few elements within Kenya Kwanza MPs who opposed the Bill shall face party disciplinary action," Cherargei stated.
Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba is among UDA MPs who voted against the bill.
Cherargei said that the MPs who voted against the bill went against the party's position on the matter.
"The party had taken a position on the Bill and it is unfortunate that some MPs decided to go against the party's position," he said.
Cherargei said that the party will not tolerate indiscipline from its members.
"We will not tolerate indiscipline from our members and those who will be found to have defied the party's position will be dealt with accordingly," he said.
The Finance Bill, 2023 was passed by Parliament on Wednesday evening. The Bill proposes a number of tax measures, including a housing levy on workers' salaries, increased taxes on fuel, and new taxes on beauty products.
The Bill is now awaiting assent from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
It remains to be seen how the disciplinary action against the Kenya Kwanza MPs will be carried out. However, it is clear that the party is not taking the matter lightly.
