One person died while 42 others were seriously injured after the bus they were traveling in crashed in Karai area in Naivasha, along the Naivasha - Nairobi Highway.
According to police reports, the accident happened at 10:40 pm Sunday, February 26
Confirming the incident, Naivasha sub-county police commander Samuel waweru stated that the victims were admitted to Naivasha sub-county hospital.
Earlier reports indicated that the driver of the bus lost control before the vehicle veered off the road and landed in a trench.
"One victim died waiting to be attended to at Naivasha Sub-county Hospital," Waweru claimed.
Police together with the First aiders from the Kenya Red Cross rushed the injured to the hospital for treatment.
According to accident records, Karai is a black spot along the busy highway.
Nairobi - Nakuru is a crucial route because it links Kenya to its neighbor Uganda through the Busia border.
In December 2016 at least 40 people died when a fuel tanker rammed several vehicles before bursting into flames.
Eyewitnesses told the press that the truck which was speeding hit a bump before losing control and knocking a number of personal vehicles.
On Thursday, December 29, several people died after a Western-bound Climax bus was involved in a multiple-car crash along the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway.
The accident which involved 5 vehicles, happened when a speeding pro box rammed into another private car.
In a report by the National Transport and Safety Authority, (NTSA), on January 20 Kenya's most dangerous roads included Nothern Bypass and Mombasa road.
"Nairobi County recorded the highest number of fatalities countrywide in 2022 with a total of 499 deaths. This is a slight reduction from the previous year which had 521 fatalities," the report read in part.
According to NTSA, the umber of fatalities from road accidents in 2022 was 4,432- which was an increase from the previous year's 4,271.
