Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli beseeched President William Ruto to name Azimio la Umoja leaders who allegedly tried to grab the Galana Kulalu land.

Speaking during an event on Thursday, January 12, Atwoli explained that it would be crucial for those involved in the scheme to be named and shamed in order to absolve some of the other leaders who are still part of the Azimio la Umoja movement.

"I heard Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua saying that some people who were in Azimio with me went to Galana and shared land among themselves.

"Some people also went home with government money. I would want them to make their names public. Even if they are not taken to court, let us know that there were corrupt people on our side," he stated.

Atwoli revealed that he owned a home in Kilifi adding that naming those involved would help clear any reports that he was personally involved in the scheme.

Further, he indicated that naming the leaders would also expose those who were in the coalition led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for personal gains.

"Galana is in Kilifi, and I want that when people see me there, they cannot say that I am among those who took the land.

"Name those who were in shady deals and were claiming to be supporting Raila and former President Uhuru Kenyatta," he stated.

The trade unionist made the statement days after Ruto issued orders to half the subdivision of 10,000 acres of land for settlement.

Instead, he instructed that the land be used for food production underlining his administration's focus on food security.

On his part, Gachagua expressed that the government would seize the property of senior officials under Uhuru's regime that acquired their wealth unlawfully.

“They had started subdividing public land among themselves in Galana Kulalu and in Kibiku in Ngong,” he stated during an interview on Inooro TV.
