A clinical officer testifying in the ongoing murder trial against governor Okoth Obado of Migori and his personal assistant, Michael Oyamo, told the court on Thursday, July 14, that he was bribed to cover-up the matter.

Cliff Momanyi, a Clinic Officer attached to Kisii Teaching and Referal Hospital, told the court he was approached and given a little sum of money to help cover up the murder of Sharon Otieno.

Momanyi told the court that he was paid Ksh1,500 to falsify medical documents for Oyamo in a bid to absorb him from being at the scene of the crime at the time of the murder.

Momanyi went ahead to tell the court that he took it upon himself to testify in the case owing to his moral standing.

Obado is accused alongside Oyamo of orchestrating the murder of Sharon, who was reportedly in an affair with the governor.

The clinical officer made headlines on March 24 this year after he was reported missing a day after testifying in the Sharon Otieno murder trial.

Momanyi’s wife, Mary Kimaiga, stated that the family tried to trace his mobile phone but its location was last traced to Bomet before it went off.

She added that Momanyi was expected home on Wednesday, March 23, but failed to show up. Kamaiga revealed that she had no clue that her husband was a witness in the case until she watched the news.

“My husband was supposed to come back on Wednesday night but he is not yet home, his phone indicates that he was last online at around 7:29pm on Tuesday, March 22.

“As a family, we are very much worried now that we know the matter he was involved in,” Kimaiga stated at the time.

Momanyi returned home a day after he was reported missing.

His return was confirmed by his wife, who had reported the matter to Kisii Police Station.

She stated that her husband was safe and unharmed. Momanyi, however, never made public where he was during that period.
