Comedian Fred Omondi will be buried on Saturday, June 29th, in Sega, Siaya County. His memorial service, initially scheduled for Thursday, June 27th, has been postponed to Friday morning, June 28th.
The memorial service will take place at the Chapel inside Chiromo funeral parlour. Following the service, the body will be airlifted to Kisumu and then transported by road to Siaya.
Last week, Milly Chebby, Terence Creative, and MP Jalang'o brought together a group of creatives to pay tribute to Omondi, who was a significant figure in the comedy industry. The show, dubbed 'Fred Omondi's Last Laugh,' was attended by notable Kenyan comedians including Churchill, MC Jessy, Oga Obinna, Dr. Ofweneke, MC Tricky, Tom Daktari, DJ Shiti, and YY.
Speaking at the event, Eric Omondi, Fred Omondi's elder brother, expressed his struggle to come to terms with his brother's passing. “This week will be really tough, I’m exhausted but we’ll get through it. At least the committee is handling most of the arrangements for now. I’m heading to the village today. You know, back home there are trees, rivers… it’s like therapy, but it has been very tough this past week,” Eric said.
“You know, the truth is now hitting me that we’ve lost Fred, it’s hitting me now. Terence told me I would cry, right now I’m in denial, I’m in shock. And because of that, I feel overwhelmed and that’s why I don’t want to stay in Nairobi. I’ve decided to go home and stay there, I’ll return for the memorial service when we collect the body,” he added.
Fred Omondi died on June 15th following a road accident.
