Willis Raburu Bids Farewell to Citizen TV After 13 Remarkable Years

Prominent news anchor Willis Raburu announced his departure from Citizen TV on Monday, June 26, bringing an end to his remarkable 13-year journey with the station.

In a heartfelt four-minute self-recorded video, Raburu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve at the Royal Media-owned network. He reminisced about his time at the station, from joining as an intern to becoming one of the country's top media personalities. Raburu revealed that this week would mark his last at Citizen TV.

Reflecting on the past few weeks, Raburu shared his theme of gratitude and expressed his appreciation for those who had supported him throughout his 13-year tenure. He acknowledged the platform provided by Royal Media Services, which allowed him to break barriers, inspire change, and connect with the audience. He added, "Onward to new adventures."

Although tendering his resignation letter at the beginning of June was not an easy decision, Raburu acknowledged the support he received from his employers during the transition, making the process smoother. His final day at the station is set for Friday, June 30, 2023.

Raburu credited Royal Media for enabling him to grow in various multimedia sectors, including conducting interviews with President William Ruto and his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunities to travel, report news, and engage in different on-air projects.

In his farewell message, Raburu revealed that he had documented his experiences at Royal Media in a book titled "Undefined," showcasing his diverse talents. The book, already available for sale, encapsulates his journey, highlighting the multitude of skills he has honed throughout his career.

While taking a break from the media for now, Raburu disclosed his intention to pursue a Master's degree in Strategic Communications and Communications for Development at the United States International University (USIU). He emphasized his desire to share the knowledge he has gained through his book and further enhance his expertise through academic pursuits.

During his tenure at Citizen TV, Raburu took on various roles, including hosting shows such as "10 over 10," "Sporty Monday," and "The Day Break Show," in addition to his news anchoring responsibilities.
