Kindiki, the Interior Cabinet Secretary, revealed that some victims of the Shakahola massacre are attempting to escape to Tsavo National Park. In a press briefing, he assured the media that the rescue operation would continue until all the victims were safely evacuated.

"We have received information that a number of Pastor Paul Mackenzie's followers are fleeing towards Galana Kulalu and Tsavo National Park. We will intensify our search and rescue efforts, thoroughly combing every part of the Shakahola Forest to ensure the evacuation of every individual present, whether deceased or alive," he stated.

Unfortunately, on Wednesday, one rescued victim from Shakahola, who had been brought to the hospital, passed away. Kindiki attributed the victim's refusal to eat to the effects of indoctrination.

He clarified that the exhumation process had been temporarily halted to allow for the commencement of postmortem examinations.

"We have discovered additional graves within the Shakahola forest. The suspension of the exhumation exercise is necessary to facilitate postmortem examinations on 129 bodies and to create space at the mortuary," he explained.

The Cabinet Secretary also stated that once the postmortem examinations were completed, the exhumation process would resume.

"We will not leave any of our people behind in the forest, whether deceased or alive. The duration of this process is uncertain."

The postmortem examinations will be conducted by Dr. Johansen Oduor, the Chief Government Pathologist, who will provide daily updates at 5 pm.
