In a series of significant moves, President William Ruto has made substantial changes to key government institutions, resulting in the removal of several appointees from the previous administration led by his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta. The latest changes, announced on Friday, August 18, mark a significant shift in leadership within various governmental bodies.

Among those affected by the shakeup is Ambassador Zachary Maburi Mwita, who served as the Chairperson of the Board of Management of Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC). Ambassador Mwita has been replaced by Joseah Kiplangat Cheruiyot, who assumes the role for a three-year term. Additionally, the KMTC board members Naomi Kathure Mutua, Stephen Ochiel, Jennifer Kibagendi, and Fredrick Wamwaki have been replaced by Paul Cheboi, Eunice Karanja, Hardlyne Lusui, and Joseph Atonga.

In another change, David Nyokabi has taken over from Gerald Macharia as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya National Public Health Institute, with a term of three years.

The Public Procurement Regulatory Board has also undergone a transformation, with Kadhua Kahindi replacing Andrew Musangi, who was previously appointed by Chris Kirubi. Musangi's removal from this position was due to his nomination by Ruto as the Chairperson of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). His potential new role at the CBK is pending approval by Parliament and, if confirmed, he will serve on the CBK board for a four-year term.

Cabinet Secretaries have also been actively involved in these changes. Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u, for instance, has replaced three board members of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA). Mwai Kihu, Grace Tole, Njoroge Nganga, and Peter Kanyua have been replaced by Benson Rono Benhard, Samuel Mkonu, Joyce Mutegi, and Rebecca Osogo.

The Public Procurement Regulatory Board, under the Treasury CS's purview, saw the revocation of Paul Otieno, Godfrey Kyalo Makau, Lydia Gachoya, and Allyce Esintele, to be replaced by Patrick Ndirangu, Lucy Chepkemoi, Amos Makokha, and Ali Haji.

Energy CS Davis Chirchir also played a role in this overhaul, making changes to the Kenya Pipeline Company Limited board. Kenneth Wathome, Elsie Mbugua, Jimmy Shiganga, Caroline Mugendi, and Frank Ireri were replaced by Edward Musebe, Irene Wachira, Mutungwa Wambua, Jane Njeri Mwangi, and Joyce Emanikor, who will serve on the board for a period of three years.

These sweeping changes by President Ruto reflect a significant reconfiguration of leadership within key government institutions, highlighting his determination to reshape the direction and priorities of the administration.
