Police say Mr Tsuma,22, is the prime suspect in the woman’s murder.

Preliminary investigations show her killer or killers strangled her and also broke her hands.

Additionally, she had bruises on her knees and private parts covered with a banana leaf.

Kaloleni Sub- County police boss Alexander Makau confirmed the incident and said the husband was the main suspect.

Mr Makau said the husband had escaped after the killing.

"Her family is working closely with the police to arrest the husband," he said.  

Ms Chizi’s family spokesperson Jimmy Ngala confirmed the couple had a dispute that led the deceased to leave her family home for her maternal home in Mwarakaya village.

Mr Ngala stated his sister disclosed she was tired of the beatings by her husband.

“My sister disclosed that her husband had developed a habit of coming home late at night and starting to demand sex and would beat her every time she declined as she was expectant. She had come home because of the husband’s beatings,” he said.

Mr Ngala said that last Thursday, their brother-in-law and his family visited them to address the dispute. 

However, the deceased asked for some time to meditate and decide whether she would go back to her home.

“Our brother In-law did not refute beating our sister, and our family asked them to go back home come on Sunday at 9 am when our sister is at ease for further talks,” he said.

According to Mr Ngala, on Friday night, the husband attended a funeral in the neighbourhood in Mwarakaya village.

They met, and in the process, he convinced the deceased to accompany him to pick up some of her stuff from their home to which Ms Chizi agreed.

The couple then proceeded home, about two kilometres from Mwarakaya. 

“But because of her safety, we asked our younger brother to drop them on a motorbike and come back with her,” he added.

The couple arrived at their home and left the brother to wait by the roadside for her.

But minutes turned into hours, and she eventually did not return, forcing him to leave.

“My brother did not know what was happening. He kept on waiting until he decided to go. He imagined that the couple could have agreed to spend the night together. It was until Saturday 1 pm while at the burial of a neighbour that an announcement of an unknown female body found was made asking the public to help identify her,” he added.

At the house, there were drops of blood and drag marks, suggesting the woman could have been killed in the house and dumped elsewhere.

A postmortem to ascertain the cause of death is to be conducted on Monday at the Kilifi County Referral Hospital mortuary.

“We want justice for our sister. We suspect it was a set-up and that there was a group of people involved in killing our sister. The husband could not have done it by himself,” Mr Ngala said.
