A violent altercation between two women in Githurai 44 on July 16, 2023, over a man they were both in a relationship with took a tragic turn when Mr Kilonzo Muinde's first wife, Ms Lucy Mboli, lost her life.
The dispute revolved around determining who held the rightful position as Mr Muinde's wife. According to a police report obtained by the media, the argument escalated to a fatal stabbing, and despite attempts to rush Ms Mboli to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries.
Mr Muinde informed the police that the commotion began when his second wife, who has also been arrested in connection with the murder, unexpectedly arrived at their rented house in Githurai 44. Since nobody was present, she let herself in and settled down to breastfeed her baby.
As it was a Saturday, Mr Muinde and Ms Mboli had gone out for a family outing. Upon their return, they discovered the second wife inside the house, leading to a quarrel and physical confrontation between the two women.
Mr Muinde intervened and managed to separate them, assuming that the fight had been resolved. However, the situation took an unexpected turn later in the evening.
As the household members settled down for sleep, the second wife took her place on the bed, accompanied by Mr Muinde. Ms Mboli, the primary wife, decided to sleep on the sofa set.
During the night, Mr Muinde heard cries for help from Ms Mboli. Hastily rushing to her side, he found her lying on the floor, blood seeping from her chest as she writhed in pain.
Both Mr Muinde and his second wife have been arrested and are currently in police custody, cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential consequences that can arise from complex relationship dynamics and unresolved conflicts, underscoring the importance of peaceful resolution and respectful coexistence.
